Yandex Brings Links Back as a Ranking Factor

The largest search engine in Russia has decided to abandon its non-link policy, which was introduced a year ago.

Yandex, the largest search engine in Russia, is going to reconsider links as a major ranking factor.

The company disregarded links as part of its ranking algorithm last year, with hopes that the number of link buyers would decrease rapidly. However, its most recent stats show that the number of paid links only dropped approximately 16 percent within one year.

In an attempt to clean up the link mess in the Russian market, Yandex has decided to factor links into its ranking algorithm once again. And this time, websites with paid links will be negatively affected.

Yandex will roll out the algorithm update in May.
