Google Says Taiwan Label Fits International Naming Conventions But Will Review

Google Blogoscoped
points to
an update on the Google Maps/Taiwan issue I wrote about
earlier. From

Google defends map service listing
at the Taipei Time, Google responded to
Taiwan’s complaints to say that calling Taiwan a "province of China" is
consistent with international naming conventions. Google is going to review the
situation, however. The San Jose Mercury News
raises an
interesting point about people perhaps thinking they need to apply to China for
permission to visit Taiwan. Taiwan is

apparently
still pressing for a change.
