Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed today. As they have for the past 7 years, Google honored Dr. King with a new Doodle.
Coloring the Google logo in a mosaic-like pattern of purple, blues, and yellow, the Doodle prominently features a profile likeness of Dr. King as the first “o” in the Google logo.
Though his birthday is January 15, the federal holiday honoring King is observed every third Monday of January, established by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
This year, King would have celebrated his 84th birthday. This year will also mark the 50th anniversary of when King delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech in Washington, D.C., August 28, 1963.
The Google Doodle celebrating King has become an annual tradition every third Monday of January since 2006. Google also produced a Doodle celebrating King in January 2003.
Last year, Search Engine watch produced a retrospective all all prior years’ Dr. Martin Luther King Google Doodles.
