If you are a classical music lover, you may have noticed that today’s Google doodle features musical instrument maker Bartolomeo Cristofori, who invented the piano.
The Google doodle was designed in honor of Cristofori’s 360th birthday. It features the instrument maker sitting by a piano. When you click to play the music, a volume control slider will pop up, and the animated Cristofori will start playing “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” a piece composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Per Wikipedia, Cristofori had built three pianos by 1711.
According to today’s doodle designer, the topic was first suggested by the Google team in Italy. The team used a software to plot the notes and rendered the sound files with a virtual piano instrument, in order to make the melody precise. They have also optimized the doodle for different browsers.
Users can share the doodle to Google+, Facebook, and Twitter.
The Google team may create doodles to tell stories behind other instruments in the future, such as the Seaboard and Continuum.
