Hitwise: Facebook is Top Search Term Across Three Major Search Engines
Experian Hitwise today announced that “Facebook” was the top organic search term in the U.S. during the four weeks ending March 27, 2010. Overall, Facebook related terms accounted for eight out of 30 search terms across the three top 10 lists.
Yahoo! related terms accounted for six spots while MySpace related terms accounted for four of the top 30 search terms across the search engines. Other search terms that were among the top 10 organic searches for all three search engines include “Youtube” and “craigslist”.
So, what does this mean for marketers? Well, as Bob Dylan sings in Subterranean Homesick Blues, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” So, if you haven’t added social media like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube to your marketing campaigns, then you are falling farther and farther behind.
The search term “eBay” was the top paid search term across the three search engines for the four weeks ending March 27, 2010. Overall, eBay related terms accounted for eight out of the top 30 search terms across the three top 10 lists.
There were six other terms that accounted for three spots across the search engines including “netflix”, “yellow pages”, “lowes”, “home depot”, “Verizon wireless” and “white pages”.
What does this mean to marketers? It means someone thinks you’ve got time on your hands to watch movies or tackle home improvement projects over the weekend.
