research your market.
define lead value.
estimate conversion rate to help guess your max bid price.
use tracking.

Good points seobook, but what about time factor...
Is any good/bad sign on a dead line?

Most tracking programs can set the time you want to keep watching for conversion and if you are tying this in to a CRM program it can be there permanently.

I would have said that PPC was primarily an expense - just like any other form of advertising. Having said that - there is possibly some degree of longer term branding as an indirect result, which could be viewed as an investment
Did you mean investment in terms of depreciation - is this an accounting discussion?

Hi Chris,
About your question, which I meant was about this kind of money (or investment) that you spend and receive something from it. Sometimes this could be material but PPC campaigns are not visible and the only way to dimension the results of any PPC campaign is receiving emails, doing sales from my website.
It’s hard to describe the frustration when you’ve been paying money for nothing. And it’s harder to explain this to a client.
