Hi,

How many of a sites pages is it possible to get into the top10 listings in a search engine??. Is it only the index(homepage) that you should concentrate on, or should you also find keywords/phrases for all the other pages and hope to gain a number1, or top10 listing for them too??, ive asked this question in other forums, but haven't really had a good answer??. help :) .
Thanks

Generally the most you can expect to get on the top page for a non-brand/URL search is two, with the subdirectory page you refer to often being the secondary (indented) listing, even more specific to the search phrase. If you have such a double, then it is a very good idea if it's in your budget to go for what I call a "Nirvana exposure" level and get a Paid Listing as well as a local results listing. 4 chances above the fold is pretty nice...

If each one of your pages deals with a different topic or subject, then they should all have an equal chance to position on the first page for queries rlated to them assuming they are well written and optimized well.

Thanks David for a good point. I was focusing on only how many listings to get on one page, but as you point out, the sky is the limit as far as the number of pages that could show up high in the rankings based on their specific content. Pretty much any page indexed has a chance to rank...
