The Japan registry is actively promoting the use & awareness of Japanese IDN domain names via the public subways in Tokyo. I've been following this market closely for a few months know & can say this is an indication that Japan will certainly make use of Japanese IDN domain soon. In two years I see them being common in Japanese advertisements.
For the search engine community Japanese IDN domains are the only domains that can have any merit for search engine algorithms because Japanese written in English letters do not have much value because most search engines cannot see the English letters to relate with anything with Japanese characters.
The IDN domains fix this...
