Does anyone know what the median salary is for a search engine marketer, and how one might go about getting the Internet equivalent for writing content for websites and email newsletters?
If I'm posting in the wrong forum, could you please direct me to the correct one for such questions?
Thanks.

Salaries vary a great deal based on skills and experience, more so than in a lot of industries where salary scales are very tangible. I've heard around 20-30% of the value of the money you make for your employer is a base value for annual salary, but this is just a crude guestimation tool.
With regards content writing, etc you could get in touch with SEO agencies who commonly outsource this type of work, and get yourself listed on the main freelance forums.

I have seen folks making anything from $15 an hour, to $800 an hour. I charge between $85-$125 an hour, depending on if I like them or not.

If I had my druthers, I would rather be writting my own content, then content for someone else. Writting for someone else pays the bills today, but writting your own content, and then selling ad space makes mucho money in the long run.
A good mix of both is a good way to go.
