Our companies website is listed quite nicely in Google, and decently in Yahoo. We've recently redone the site and new content is being added on a daily basis. In looking at some of the search terms in Yahoo vs. Google, I'm realizing that specific product pages are not being indexed, and that our PDF files are ranking higher than our actual pages.

For example, one product we distribute is the vidar designer 18 large format scanner. If you search in yahoo, we come up #6 and #9 for our Vidar vendor store and our main Vidar page, but the actual product page is not listed in the results.

Same search in google nets us the 1 & 2 spots, with the actual product page and the specific PDF.

In other searches, some of our PDF files come up much higher than the actual product pages. This would be best exampled by the search term Kodak i600. We rank #7 in google, but it's our PDF file for the product. The actual product page is on the second page of the results within google.

Yahoo, neither the PDF or the actual product page can be found! Any ideas on how I can get the deeper pages on our site listed?

The web site is promarktech.com

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Now, realize that most of this content was created within the last 30 days, so, understandably, we're not as detailed as we'd like to be.

So, my final question is, how do I get all pages within my site indexed by Yahoo, and does anyone know of the search engines looking at PDF files as more "relevant" than other types of files?

I really don't know about indexing of PDF files, but since a few weeks have elapsed and there's probably been more crawling done, how is it looking now for the product pages?

I haven't reviewed my web stats, since most of my stats are now garnered to remove bots from the tracking. But when visiting Yahoo and testing some of the pages, there is no results coming in, so it appears that the pages have yet to be indexed by Yahoo.

Working deeper to fine tune the pages through SEO, and hopefully they'll get listed there soon. We are moving to Google for our marketing $$. We feel that the "relevancy" ranking within Adwords is a better option for some of our keywords than paying full rank within Yahoo.

Please feel free to visit the site and offer any recomendations for improvement, but I think we've made the site very user friendly and easy to navigate with numerous ways to navigate the site. www.promarktech.com is the domain.

As I've shared, the new look is only approximately 2 months old at this point, so it might take some time for the updates within Yahoo. Just noticing that google is doing a much better job with updates.

Google seems to like pdfs more than the other engines do. It may be that the pdf you cite is more focussed on the search query than your page is. Titles, title pages within the pdfs, and link text to the pdfs are all helpful in getting pdfs to rank. If your pdfs do rank, be sure to include contact info in them so visitors downloading them can later find you.

As for getting pages indexed faster by Yahoo, Yahoo is the worst of the major engines, by far, in indexing deep pages. If Yahoo had anywhere near the popularity of Google, I'm sure there would be lots of discussion about whether Yahoo has an aging delay for inner pages built into its algo. I think in Yahoo's case that it's actually an indexing delay, but there may be a ranking delay as well.

I've long felt that Yahoo's pay for inclusion program (which I do not recommend for most sites) has put Yahoo in a conflict of interest situation, which has perhaps slowed Yahoo down when it comes to indexing new content... or at least, let's say, hasn't given the search team a mandate to speed things up.

I am on the same page as you regarding their pay for inclusion / quick review category called Search Submit. We looked at it, and the functionality is what we'd want, but the price is steep if you are looking for your deeper pages to get indexed, but those pages don't update all the time.

We simply want clean results in Yahoo like we get in Google. We've almost given up on Yahoo for this exact factor. We don't have any way to get our pages updated or listed with them unless we pay. I think this is a bad policy for Yahoo in general.

Regarding the PDF files, we didn't create them, so the capabilities of the file are directly from the manufacturer of each product. Funny thing is that our file comes up higher than many other pages or PDF's on the subject.

In google we get huge traffic from our PDF's. We'll need to rework them to include our link and contact information. A long hard road since we have hundreds of PDF's on our site.
