Hello,
I am attempting to improve rankings for this site (alchimica.com). Although it is getting crawled by Yahoo and Google, only the homepage is doing well. All other pages seem to be ignored. When I query Y and G with "site:www.alchimica.com" the pages I care about are nowhere to be seen. In particular, I would like to see results for this directory: "site:www.alchimica.com/EN/construction/". Any hints please?

Hi, Boussog1. I'd attribute your lack of indexing to linkage, both internal and external. You need more links from other sites to yours to get spidered deeper and more often, and to raise the visibility of lower level pages. Also, you need to be sure that the content that is important to you is well-linked in your own site. I couldn't find links to the /EN/construction/ folder on your home page or site map. Did I miss them?
Overall, though, start working on getting some good inbound links - that should get your content higher in the rankings, particularly for the specialized searches a site like this targets.

Hello again,
I really don't think that there is an internal link problem on the site. The pages I am interested in are:
http://www.alchimica.com/EN/industries/industrial-spray-coatings.php
http://www.alchimica.com/EN/construction/sprayed-protective-coating.php
http://www.alchimica.com/EN/construction/sprayed-polyurethane-coating.php
http://www.alchimica.com/EN/construction/spray-polyurethane-waterproofing.php
http://www.alchimica.com/EN/construction/polyurethane-waterproofing.php
The first one is accessed by clicking on "CONSTRUCTION" on the homepage and from there the other four are found under "SECTORS". Similarly on the sitemap.
As for inbound links, most sites which could link to us are some kind of search facility, for instance icissearch.com. Would such a site help with Y and G?
Thanks in advance.
You will need to have more than 1 link going to these pages - you should have multiple links within your site to these pages especially if they are important. IE home page link and sitemap link aren't enough.
If these are "main" pages, such as category pages, consider using breadcrumb nav - that will help build the links to them.

Thanks for the breadcrumbs suggestion, I will try it. However, I am wondering if the pages I am interested in have been penalised due to improper SEO practices. Possible culprits are keyphrases in image alt tags and in tiny blank gifs (alt and href tags). I suspect this due to the fact that other non-optimised pages with similar visibility in the site are actually indexed.
I doubt it's image alt tags unless they are stuffed with keywords.
It could be the hidden links - why do you have them? do they go to doorway pages? If so you should rework them and add them into regular content with regular navigation, then remove the hidden links.
I also doubt it's due to non-optimized pages.
