I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong section.
I have a customer who just had a new site designed. They previously uploaded the new design to their old host & fell off of the search engines within a couple of days. I originally thought that it was because the new site's filenames were named different. We put the old site back in place & they came back up almost immediately. It seemed like the SE's were looking for the old pages, so when that site came down, they were dead links basically. Which makes sense.
Since then, I had the designer name all of the files the same as the old ones so we didn't lose the pages. Neither site had keywords set up & have since been added.
The problem is now, about a week & a half ago we changed hosting & moved them to our server & put up the new site. Since then, they have dropped off the SE's again.
So the file names are the same, the page titles are the same. The keywords were placed in the site in the last day or so. I have set up the sponsored links through Google. The domain name didn't change.
They had multiple forms on the old site that are now consolidated into 1 form on the new site. I noticed that there aren't any alt tags on most of the images on the new site, but had them on the old site. The content of the site also changed, verbage wise, but still uses the same phrases throughout the site on the same pages. They basically just changed the way it reads, but says the same thing...
So obviously, my question is, does anyone have any ideas as to why they would just totally drop from page 1 on google/aol to like page 5? Is it a combo of all of the things I mentioned, or am I missing something.
I don't fully understand SEO, which is why I am here, but am trying to learn it as I go along.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
