I have a site that does fantastic in Google, but I can't figure out what's going on in Yahoo. I know quite a few people share the experience of doing well in Google, but not Yahoo, but I haven't seen this scenario mentioned:
The Yahoo bot visits the site on average once an hour, but never indexes/caches any page except the homepage. The robots.txt file is fine.
The homepage ranks #7 for two very competitive search phrases in Yahoo, and that hasn't budged at all in at least 6 months. It seems obvious to me that these terms are among the top 5% of searches that are handcoded by Yahoo editors.
That would seem to indicate to me that the site isn't banned. Yet no other searches, even long "tail" terms bring up the site. Even a search on the site's name doesn't bring it up. And I'm not just talking about not ranking well... the site is completely AWOL except for the 2 searches I mentioned.
