Notice there is NO FORUM here on meta-search engines
but search engines and directories and PPC are acknowledged

Before Google it appeared that Dogpile and Meta Crawler might be the next big thing (even alltheweb) has a moment in Tech-glory

But is anyone using them now - how satisfied are you with the SERPs

it appears that Vivisimo is still favored by some hi-tech types - but is the day of the Meta Engines OVER????? :(

Actually, you'll find that Meta search engines - like Vivismo - fall under the category SEW forum category "Other Search Engines & Directories".

There are several Vivismo specific threads in that forum.

In answer to your question, I occassionally use meta search engines as a quick way to find obscure things - like searching on a part number.

I definitively think it SHOULD be one.

@ ! ! ; Before Google it appeared that Dogpile and Meta Crawler might be the next big thing (even alltheweb) has a moment in Tech-glory

Very true.

@ ! ! ; But is anyone using them now - how satisfied are you with the SERPs

I’m using them very often - specially when I'm looking for places where my articles appeared - and I’m very satisfied. I use a meta search engine when I'm looking for a unique or obscure search term or if I want to make an in-depth analysis of what's out there on a specific subject. For more see my article:

The Meta Search Engines: A Web Searcher's Best Friends

http://www.web-design-in-new-york.com/meta_search_engines.html

As you see at the bottom of the article many Web editors considered my article useful.

@ ! ! ; it appears that Vivisimo is still favored by some hi-tech types –

Vivisimo is OK, but I like more www.ez2find.com

@ ! ! ; but is the day of the Meta Engines OVER?????

No way, my friend, no way!

@ ! ! ; has Google become a Panacea?

Nope. Not for me, at least.

A meta search engine is NOT a search engine NOR a Web directory. It’s just ANOTHER SEARCH TOOL, like the SEs & WDs.

Nice idea.

But is anyone using them now

Frequently. On my website (an all-in-one search page, click here (http://www.portprophecy.com) to view) I have a category of meta search engines I think are worthy of use. Dogpile and Vivisimo are still very nice.

but is the day of the Meta Engines OVER?????

Hardly. Newer, better meta engines keep appearing. A couple of newer meta engines you might not know but are quite good in my opinion are ez2find (http://ez2find.com) and Ithaki (http://www.ithaki.net). I find them to give relevant returns on queries. Turbo10 (http://turbo10.com) is one that has a unique interface. It offers a list on the left side of the page of other relevant searches if what you found isn't quite what you hoped.

A meta search engine is NOT a search engine NOR a Web directory. It’s just ANOTHER SEARCH TOOL, like the SEs & WDs.

Well some may actually be considered a search engine, since many meta engines are taking site submissions and keeping their own index of pages to use in their results.

Can you list some MSEs that are taking site submissions?

Well, if you are interested in going a PPC route most of the big meta searchers have options for that. Dogpile, MetaCrawler, WebCrawler, etc. etc.

I assume you are looking for something to submit a site free into an index. I think that InCrawler.com, HuntItOut.com, and KillerInfo.com all take site submissions. Windseek.com doesn't maintain it's own database, but you should submit to their sister site EntireWeb.com. You will then be listed in both engines.

Hope those sites work for you.

Thank you for the info.

>Dogpile… MetaCrawler…

A search for cars in Dogpile gave me 91 results, with the first 45 “Sponsored by:…”

How disgusting! And the words “Sponsored by” written in the SAME light green as the URL, making it impossible to see which are sponsored sites and which are not.

HuntItOut.com and KillerInfo.com do accept FREE submissions.

Entireweb has both Express Inclusion (Fee) and Free Submission (Your site will be included in the search index based on space, time and the number of clients, however no URL submission is guaranteed to be included in our index when using this option.)

InCrawler.com has Basic Listing ($24.95) and Premium Listing ($49.95)

Anyway, NONE of the MSEs listed above are in my Top 10, so they present little interest to me.

Yes, idea of a 'Metasearch Engine' forums is good!

Before Google it appeared that Dogpile and Meta Crawler might be the next big thing (even alltheweb) has a moment in Tech-glory

I presume, metasearch engines were not in light before google? Metasearch basically crawls 2+ engines and displays combined results, isnt it? Before google, there was only yahoo, msn was more of a portal than a search engine.

However, Dogpile (metacrawler & webcrawler are the same), AlltheWeb and Vivismo are most used meta search engines currently. But their ratio according to the traditional engines (google, yahoo, msn) is relatively lower, much lower.

But is anyone using them now - how satisfied are you with the SERPs
Except the speed, there's not any flipside of meta search engines. SERP's are way too relevant, but it completely depends on the engines the metasearch pulls results from. For instance, mamma started to pull results from msn and teoma primarily and their SERPs lag now.

In any case, yes I use a metasearch primarily over the traditional engines (google, yahoo, msn) and I'm quite satisfied.

it appears that Vivisimo is still favored by some hi-tech types - but is the day of the Meta Engines OVER?????
Noway! Time for Metasearch engine has just started, I believe. Just have to wait till a metasearch engine (quite possibly, vivismo) introduces something extraordinarily cool. :)

has Google become a Panacea?
Noway! Google sucks lately. I ditched google over msn and ditched MSN for a metasearch engine. :)
