Google is getting BIG without control

It’s amazing how the Internet marketing focus has been changed during the last years. The internet marketing was something really constant, pleasant and controllable for a website manager (now called it webmaster).

When I just started 5 years ago, my job as the online marketing manager for a transnational company based here on my country http://www.viethoteltravel.com, was simple…some strategies going on dealing with the SE -trying to get good rankings on it-, partners, affiliates and some PPC campaigns. Oh yes, the golden years!

Definitely, my life has been changing too fast lately. Google seems to be one of the favorites SE on the area – & worldwide no doubt- and the good times now have turned into a fight without rules.

Every day I try to maintain my site (I mean, my job), and keeping to uphold our website I found a lot SPAM on Google (SEO Black techniques, doorway pages, cloaking, link farms, BLOGS, forums, are just a few elements) listing on the top organic results!

So, what’s happening on Google? There are too much websites, Portals, Spammers? I do like Google search but since last year I’ve found how this world (SE war) is moving to nowhere! Where’s the spammers control? Who’s behind the “Help us maintain the quality of Google results”?

I’m really tired to being treating like a dumb. I’m tired to keep fighting alone this war, in which there’s one loser: the clientele. People who’re searching (I mean, trusting) on this giant worldwide.

This will be mi phrase: “Google world, NO rules”

internet marketing was something really constant, pleasant and controllable

I am sorry if I offend you, but if that is what you are looking for in your job I would say you are in the wrong line of business. Too me, online marketing has never been "really constant, pleasant and controllable" - not even when it comes to paid results and even less when it comes to organic.

If you job is dependant on your ability to keep your company's website in the top of the organic results of Google I think you need to take a serious talk with your boss. Online marketing is about a lot more than just free results in Google. If you put all your efforts there you are doomed to fail - sooner or later. You've got to have back-up plans for when you drop in rankings. You can't have your business become too dependant on somethig you really can't control.

I love to bitch about Google but to be honest I really think the guys are doing what they can to produce good search results and judging from their success a lot of users seems happy enough. True, not perfect but nothing in this world is. You job is to adapt :)
