I have a question.

Most pages on my Company’s website appear well in Google’s natural results ... except for the site’s main Index page. For many keywords, our Privacy Policy, Products page, and so on, rank well, but under no circumstance does our main Index page rank anywhere in the results. Never!

Is this abnormal for a corporate website? We’re a well known company within our industry with a busy website. There _is_ text on the main page, and without a doubt it has better link strength than any other page on our website.

Many thanks in advance :)
Jeff

Hi JeffBurton,

Without seeing the site/page in question, it seems like you might be targeting keyword phraess that are a little too competitive at the moment for your index/main page, (assuming you have the keyword phrases on the page) I would try testing out a few different keyword phrases that might be a little less competitive (still relevant & with traffic).

Changing up the text on the index page and the title tag, checking your logs and see exactly what phrases people are currently using to find your site. Also, check the competition for the keyword phrases that you're tracking, and see what differences there are, see how you can work to improve the page.

I have a similar problem as yours. A search for www.mysite.com yields no results from Google, but yet searches for major keywords in my category in google will return results. For example instead of being ranked #1 in almost every major keyword in my category, my site is now ranked 2nd or third. I had this problem back in July as well. I checked with some people here and found some 301 redirects that i didn't know about, corrected the problem and had all my previous #1 rankings restored the next day. So now i'm really puzzled as to why this is happening again. I have over 15000 backlinks, the phrase 'mysite' is my domain name and i've been around for 6 years. Its really puzzling as to why my competitor who has been around for 2 years, has only 333 backlinks can outrank my site. (maybe his SEO guy is just really good)
