I've been hearing/reading scattered comments that the PageRank meter on the Google Toolbar isn't reliable, and I want to know more.

Can anybody point me to a good link that describes this problem?

Thanks!

Jen

It only updates once every 3 months or so...you're pretty much always looking at "old" PR when you're using the toolbar.

IMHO, I still believe that ..... the little green line is for "entertainment purposes only " even on a direct download of the "Big G" toolbar it isnt active

Yes, that's right. Last SES Conference –Toronto- they point to this like the “green bar on the G toolbar”. That’s it! Like a business or entertainment purposes only.

Thanks for that link. I really enjoyed reading it. I understand that PageRank and link buying is a messy little can of worms. But what I'm looking for is something that indicates that the toolbar meter itself shows outdated information, or in some other way shouldn't be trusted to reflect Google's current PageRank assessment.

Maybe I missed it in there somewhere? Anybody else?
