View Full Version : Change of Domain = Sandbox or Dup Content Penalty?

Looking for advice...

My client's site was initially launched as a subdomain to its parent site. Several months ago, I relaunched it under its own domain. The new domain has been indexed by all engines except Google.

The relaunch also involved removing the site from a terrible CMS that was written in Turkish and horrible for search. So for the few pages that were appearing, title tags and descriptions were not available.

My Issues:

The new domain is pointing to the same index file as the old one, so it's not possible to do a 301 redirect.

The googlebot is spidering the sitemap, robots and index file of the new domain, but no pages beyond that.

The googlebot has decreased the number of requests for the old subdomain (good thing!).

Google SERPs are still showing the horrible Turkish results with no tags. No sign of the new domain, even though on average two new sites appear to be linking to the new domain each week on Google.

My Questions:

Is there anything I can do to get the new domain to actually appear in the Google results?

Is Google seeing it as duplicate content?

Am I stuck in the sandbox?

Should I write to Google?

Please share your experiences. Thanks!
