Hi there

I looked through the threads and don't see once that covers this issue.

There are now programs available that will scrape content of other websites to build pages of sensible to some degree but over all gibberished content.

On top of this webmasters are running to add 100s of pages of the junk content to their sites thinking this manipulation of the SERPS is going to bring them to the tops of the results rankings.

Questions

1, How will Google deal with the page scrapers and the junk they produce?

2. At what threshold is a Dupe Content Filter applied, is it per page or several paragraphs as the determination??

3. At what number of words can it be decided that copyright infringement has occured. In music it is 7 notes that can be repeated in succession as the original song before it the song has the copyright violated...Is this the same for all works or are there different definitions for different forms of printed material???

4 How would it be possible to persue the sites using scraped copy for Copyright infringement???

5. How will Google deal with the sites adding 100s to 1000s of these junk pages to websites to influence the SERPs??

Well, GoogleGuy himself said last week that they are dealing with it now. I wrote a blog entry named Google Purges Scraper Sites (http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/002277.html) where I quote GG as saying at WMW, "I believe some scraper sites went out today. It's something that we're going to look more at over time, too."

No one knows exactly.

3. At what number of words can it be decided that copyright infringement has occured. Good question...

4 How would it be possible to persue the sites using scraped copy for Copyright infringement??? see http://www.google.com/dmca.html

Search engines ultimately have to deal with it.
