I have to say the only one thing missing is spell check to cover all those illiterate spellerrrsss roaming out there (not that there's anything wrong with that). Is there any plan to implement spell check to keep your board content as correct as possible for the SE's and Users purposes?

Or everyone can get a Mac and have spell check built in (while you type) in any text field when you use Apple's Safari browser.

I think misspellings add character. They also do a good job to show you are human. They may not help me land my next 6 figure client, (as I don't think I ever care to have one) but I don't think they are that big of a deal every now and again on forum posts.
there are lots of ways to spell britney spears (1st result if you search Google for misspellings).

as if she didn't get enough traffic already...arg

Gosh, Barry, and here I was just about to whine about your avatar, you admit to using a REAL computer. Guess I shouldn't be so quick to judge... any chance SEW will ever have a Mac Webmasters area like WMW does?

I doubt it, but it is not my call. I think this forum will be focused on SEM and not all Webmaster related topics.

I was just looking at Ian's signature and the word International. It got me to thinking about how this board will become Internationalized sooner or later with folks from around the World. To that extent, a spell-checker would be invaluable to them in my opinion and would aid them a great deal -- plus at the same time be a learning tool.
There are also the type of people who proof their posts a couple of times for spelling errors before they smack the submit button. This would help them out also and get them in and out of a thread before seven posts fly in while he is in the process of posting.
Now of course, it would have to be an English spell checker -- and not an Old Englishe spell-checkeur. ;)

Or, perish the thought, an AMERICAN spell checker... ;o)

This forum will become International ? Don't use the future tense... It is ;) (I'm french).
English is not my native language (I apologize for my bad english by the way). For foreign people, I think spelling isn't a real problem (but grammar is...).
This thread reveals how much people here care about quality. This is not always true in english speaking forums. And sometimes it becomes difficult for foreign speaking people to understand the threads, not only for mispelling problems but also because people use slang terms, abbreviations (SMS) and jargon. Some posts become so gibberish that even a member born in New Jersey can't understand them !
We had the same discussion in a french forum for webmasters I'm involved in (webmaster-hub). Our policy about spelling, and the level of language is very strict :
- mispelling is not tolerated, and people who show no effort about it are banned
- SMS language is forbidden : members using it are banned
- any member using loose language is warned
- members posting "smileys", two word posts ("i agree"), or anything without interest, are banned.
Ten months later, we are very happy to have taken these decisions, because it improved the quality of the forum in a spectacular way...
As a matter of fact, if every post is written following these rules, it seems people who usually pollute forums don't dare posting at all...

I know what you are saying. I feel the same way about as you do, to some extent.
But, there is a saying, "Tous fonctionnent et aucun jeu ne font à Jaques un garçon mat. Je sais, mon Français est mauvais."
...now where is that French smiley? ;)

I think you need to have fun doing what you are doing and am not a fan of an overly formal setting in chat rooms.
certain people may be offended by jokes and this or that, but you learn better and teach better when you feel comfortable being yourself. that is true in just about any environment.
sometimes my posts might seem a wee bit like giberish, but I have no problem trying to reexplain them if they are unclear.
