I''ve been trying over and over to increase my rankings with google and yahoo but I've not been real successful with it. Can anyone take a look at my site and let me know any suggestions you have that will help in climbing the ranks? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much. www.landsofamerica.com
2 questions for you:
Why is there a redirect from the main domain to a subfolder?
What type of redirect is it?

The website used to be on a shared hosting account with multiple domains so it's built to all go to a root and depending on the domain it goes to the correct folder.
It's a 302 redirect.
Is that ok?
A 301 redirect is probably better for you - it will give the credit to the subfolder rather than the root of the domain.
It is also more advantageous for you to get your own unique domain with separate hosting. As it stands, your site looks like part of the landsofamerica.com site and if it is unique content (that is your subfolder is unique and separate from the landsofamerica.com domain) then any improvements you make ultimately improve landsofamerica.com The 302 redirect also adds to this.
The search engines treat the 302 as a temporary redirect and will assign any value to the page doing the redirect. Therefore the value is assigned to landsofamerica.com. Using a 301 to the subfolder assigns your value to the landsofamerica.com/subfolder.

Is that ok?So there are multiple domain names "pointed" to that "main" domain and then they're routed to the appropriate sub-folder with a temporary redirect depending on which domain has been typed into the browser?
That isn't good at all. Which of the domains have inbound links, and what *page* do the inbound linsk point to? All to that index page that's redirecting, with that domain name in the link? Which domain names are links pointing to? Which "site" or "page" or "domain" gets the PR and why, based on what?
Why can't each domain be hosted separately, with the main page in the root folder?
Added:
Have you looked at what Yahoo has for inbound links for all of that site?
