I’ve been throwing a lot of keywords in my campaigns (thousands), most of which are misspellings and alterations for my main keywords. My account came up with a notice that I can’t put any more keywords in – I’m maxed out.

Can I create a new account with a different e-mail address but the same credit card? Does anyone know the limit of Goggle accounts one person/business can have. I’m sure you could get in trouble if you had the same keywords promoting the same services in different accounts. Anybody know Goggle’s policy on creating multiple accounts)? I can’t find it on their site.

Before setting up a new account, I suggest you contact Adwords Support and ask them to increase your current account's keyword limit. If you justify your reasons for doing so, as you've done in your post here, they will usually allow it. They just don't want people stuffing their accounts with irrelevant keywords a la the famous "child for sale" ads, so they have a preset limit in place for everyone. I have found the support staff to be quite responsive to requests such as this.

It's my understanding that Google does not allow multiple accounts for one advertiser except under special circumstances, so I don't recommend setting one up at this point - it could cause more problems than it solves.

I agree they will help.

Have you gone to the max on the AdGroup and Campaign levels?

You have over 250,000 keywords????

Thanks -I will contact them. I guess I have reached the limit because that's what my account is telling me.

Google will allow you to open as many accounts as you want, as long as you're spending enough money. Do you currently have an account rep? If so, contact him/her and say that you want to have another account tied to your current one. Linking the two accounts together makes it impossible for you to bid on the same phrase twice.

I'm currently running four accounts to get around their system's shortcomings. Account size is definitely one area where Yahoo trumps Google.

Added:

I use a GreaseMonkey script to remove that annoying red, "you have way too many keywords" box that you're seeing. It helps to ease the pain ;)

Do you know if it's OK to have all of the accounts pointing to the same site? I called Google today and they told me that the keyword max applies to the site, not how many acounts I have. They told me that if I opend up different accounts leading to the same site, they wouldn't allow me to create new keywords if the first account was already maxed.

Yes, it's OK to point all four accounts at the same site; you just can't have multiple ads showing for the same phrase. However, I'm not surprised you received a conflicting answer. Uncommon questions don't seem to have made it to the telephone scripts yet. For instance, I fought for six months to get someone to admit that they had a bulk upload feature.

If you don't have a rep assigned to you, you might be facing an uphill battle.

Generator sez:

You should definitely get an adrep if you don't have one already. If you have that many words I can only assume that your budget is non-negligable. Depending on how much you spend and how well you talk to them during a meeting you could possibly even get a small team of people to help you with such things as advice, credit limit notification, bulk uploads, etc. Their customer service at that point is excellent.

How many of your thousands of keywords are actually served...getting impressions? Last year I had thousands of keywords as well. Over the last 4 months my keyword count has dropped. I have removed thousands of keywords because I beleive Google does not serve them all, and all the keywords negatively impact an account. I've watched my accounts as past profitable keywords stopped being served (I do bid high) and less profitable ones become more active and generate more impressions. As though Google is deciding which keywords they think I should be on -- against which are actually profitable for me. Is this my imagination or are others seeing this happen to them? I put effort into smaller targeted keywords groups and know how to target ad copy and such. Does the "max" that everyone is talking about apply here...need to request relief? I've already spent $$$,$$$ this year. My past experience with customer support has not been good. Is there a "better rep" to speek with for a GAP? Please email me if yes. Thank you.

The fact that they now serve relevant similiar keywords when in broad listings, you can be searched for a specific keyword you have but as the CTR and Max of another is better it can be the search term listed.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I use pretty "specific phrases" or [exact matches] and they impressions just seem to drop over time. I see in the forums a 3% cost increase each month, but my bids have increased beyond 3% a month for sure.
