Hi everyone

It seems to me that many are spending so much time worrying over Google and its operations and and changes.

this past weekend people went insane over toolbar PR rank graying out. Yet had they taken 5 minutes and surfed some top named sites they would see it was an across the board effect and move on with life.

If you build a website with the intent of ranking on Googles front page results to build your business, you should probably close up shop and head back to a real job. This kind of obsessive behavior over a free service is absurd and unhealthy.

First if you are a publicly held company, and built your business and revenues off Googles listings, and Google disappeared tomorrow for a few months, you would see a lot of angry shareholders and possibly a lawsuit for negligence.

Next Google is a research engine which will drive traffic ,,,however Yahoo is a shopping engine and sends better targeted buying traffic Google for e-commerce fcused websites.

I have read in forums where a webmaster was checking results on Google every 15 minutes.....that is when I realized the fascination with Google was over the edge and beyond reality.

If the webmaster spent 15 minutes several times a day building one page of 500 to 700 words of optimized content {spiderbot food} and checking for errors and such on their websites, in a matter of six months to a year the front page results would come.

If they spent 15 minutes each day improving their site for their current users, conversion to sales ratio would increase, and Google rankings would become less of a concern.

If they spent 15 minutes building one quality link to their site, over time front page results would occur.

If they spent 15 minutes on their weekly newsletter to their existing customers, their profit margins would rise, as it is cheaper to keep an existing customer, than to have to find a new one.

If they spent 15 minutes taking care of customer satisfaction. their returning visits would increase.

If they spent 15 minutes looking for ways to build additional incremental traffic to their sites, they would see a rise in revenue and profits.

If they took 15 minutes and thought of Google as SuperBowl Ads (which I have never seen anyone going bananas over the fact they were not running an ad then) they would find a balance to their lives.

If they took 15 minutes and looked at other search engines that are driving quality traffic to websites albeit not as high traffic wise, they would find their unique visitors and visits growing daily. If you sell 100s or 1000s of products look for an image based search engine where it would be harder to change or alter the results.

If they spent 15 minutes analyzing thier competetion, they would soon find themselves being analyed by their competition, the ones who used to be on googles front page.

If they spent 15 minutes understanding the globalization effects on Google SEPRs., and how to position themselves for the local search results, thier local search traffic would improve, and their revenue would grow at a great ROI.

If they spent 15 minutes asking the users what they need, then their sales conversion ratio would increase, and their sales would, as well.

I at times think if we just all stopped and turned our backs on the beast it would soon go away. If you think about things logically, the more people that rant and rave about googles antics and frustrations the more publicity they receive )publicity doos and bas is beteer, and the more inquisitive others become drawing in even more disillusioned webmasters who then run to monetize their sites through Google Adwords Adsense etc and yet less than 1% are probably making enough money to support themselves much less a family.

If they spent 15 minutes looking for other channels to advertise within, they would find the need to check results, and obsess, about Google almost an afterthought.

The more people build they hype over Google the larger the hype increases, and the more insane people will become.....

If I look at this computer screen another 15 minutes I will fall asleep with my face buried in the keyboard......

Peace

While I'm certainly not a Google-OCD, I can safely say most of my conversions come from Google, along with most of the traffic. I totally agree with much of what you said, but Google drives my sales, not Yahoo.

And I don't check my SERPs. A script does. I'm a programmer.
