Yesterday while researching for a client, i tried the Greek phrase for "fixed telephony" at MSN.

One of the top 10 results (from about 36000), contained the phrase only in the Meta "keywords" area (at the 18th place) and nowhere else because the page was in English. The link analysis for this page (at MSN) didn't reveal any helpful data because none of the link text was the Greek phrase that i had used.

By the way, this was my client's website before any search engine optimization.....

I think it could be due to the term not being an optimized one. If nobody has put any effort into pinpointing that particular keyword combination then a single inclussion of the keyword anywhere in the site may get you ranked high.

I don't know the Greek market but if it is anything like the Spanish market a few months ago then I can see that happening. The SEO industry may not have reached Greece yet at the level it has in other countries.

And then you get the unexplainable that occasionally happens with google: a site with little content, no links, and errors in the page getting a high ranking for a competitive term. It is rare but it happens.
