Hi,
having read the Search Engine Watch newsletter for years now and followed the postings in your forums off and on, I finally need your help. Our google.de traffic has dropped by 50% since last Friday, and I have no idea why.
We are still listed in google.de and some of our optimized pages continue to have page one positions. However, others have dropped dramatically after having been on the first page for months and sometimes years. And new pages don't seem to be spidered at all.
We have incoming links from quite a few content rich and relevant sites to our German site version. However, when searching for the pages linking to us on google.de by using link:... I receive mostly links from our own website, although there are definitely other sites linking to us. A few weeks ago I have worked on a linking campaign for about a week and received more new links than during the months before, since our site has lost considerable traffic since February 2005. This may have caused a peak in links pointing to our site. Since then I have exchanged links irregularly again.
Also, we have optimized our sales pages using IBP and according to W3C recommendations over the past months, which has improved the positions of our major pages in google and other search engines. Most of these pages still retain their good rankings, but some have dropped dramatically.
And we are in the process of setting up an independent English version of our site on a different server with links to English pages that currently still are running on our German server. Thus there are some links coming from this new English version and one outgoing link from our German version.
What have we done wrong? And how can we get back our google-traffic?
We very much would appreciate your help. Our site can be found at: http://www.travelworldonline.de.
Greetings,
Mona
