I used Google's automatic URL removal system (http://services.google.com:8882/urlconsole/controller?cmd=reload&lastcmd=login) to remove my under development site from Google's index back in December, 2004. I did this as knee reaction when my site showed up as a URL only listing and I thought it might be "Sandboxed" (didn't know much about that term back then).

I made the site live in February and googlebot started visiting and I didn't show up in the index. :(

After waiting for about 9 weeks, I went back to the Google page and noticed this phrase:

http://www.google.com/remove.html#exclude_website....submitting via the automatic URL removal system will cause a temporary, 180 day removal of your site from the Google index.
I didn't see that phrase when I originally read that section.

I wrote Google support about this and they answered with:Thank you for your note. Pages removed using our public removal tool are excluded from our index for at least 6 months regardless of whether they become available to our crawler during that time. Please keep in mind that we're unable to manually add pages to our search results, even those that have been removed through this public tool.
Anybody have any experience with this situation? Will my site get indexed after the 6 months? I wrote G back and asked about the "...at least 6 months..." line in their email.

Thanks!

martin

Interesting... I haven't heard of this happening for over two years. Google used to be infamous for this. I thought it stopped with the florida update in 2003. It looks like google has updated their algo once again to include sites that were manually asked to be removed from the index.

I wouldn't worry about it really, as it is well known how horrible a search engine Google has become. I doubt anyone actually uses it anymore.

As unpopular Google may be with some in the Search Community, Google still receives a large volume of searchers. You can see here (http://searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156451) that Google has 47.3% of the share of searches from the latest Nielsen NetRatings Search Engine Ratings. I would say that the general searcher is not too aware of the little issues that are rising.

Sadly, not everyone is caught up in the excitement in the world of search marketing and all that is happening behind the scenes :D.

Its always important to read everything over, its too bad you'll have to wait to get back in.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Communicating with Google is really frustrating...they never answer a simple question in a direct way. As I said here:... I wrote G back and asked about the "...at least 6 months..." line in their email. This is what they wrote back:Thank you for your reply. As mentioned earlier, these pages will be removed for at least six months. After that period, we cannot guarantee inclusion in our search results. Since Google is a fully automated search engine, you do not need to submit your site for inclusion. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed are not manually submitted for inclusion. Google uses software known “spiders” to crawl the web on a regular basis to find sites for inclusion in our index. Please visit our Webmaster Guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html for information on creating and maintaining a "Google-friendly" website. Thanks G for providing all the information I already knew (what's a spider? ) and not addressing the 6 months vs. at least 6 months issue. :(

Anyone have any experience with this situation (time frame)?

Thanks. ;)
