We are web site hosting and design company with Internet presence since 1996. We are currently seeking an SEO consultant to work with our staff in building, optimizing, submitting, and maintaining our new web sites. Our in-house staff will be handling the majority of the work and management. We are seeking someone to provide technical consultation and direction for us.
We are not currently interested in having a firm take over the project. SEO firms and/or individuals who are not willing to work with us on a consultation basis need not respond. We are seeking a Search Engine experts with extensive experience and references and who can provide us with examples of existing top search engine placement on competitive keywords on the major search engines.

Todd

I would be interested in speaking with you to see how I can improve your visibility. I have been in the industry for over 10 years and have much success with sites such as housepaintingestimates.com for major keywords "cost to paint house" or "painting estimates".
I am the web manager for the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority in Ohio, and you can see the search ranking I have for industry strong keywords such as "Ohio 529 savings plan" for this site, collegeadvantage.com. My years of experience can help you get where you need to be, but only if you are committed to following my direction. I am not interested in taking over the project from you, as I don't have time for that anyway, but would be willing to help on a strict consulting basis.
Feel free to contact me at jrozsa@yahoo.com to discuss in more detail.
Thanks, Joe
Probably one of the very hardest set of keywords to optimize effectively is "web hosting" and "web design" and, if done right, can be extremely financially rewarding. The fact you only want to hire a consultant and not have this done full-time in house, shows a real lack of commitment. I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole.

I have to disagree with you strongly donp.
If the company has a good in-house team, but is seeking an experienced professional/expert in SEO to help guide them, I believe that's perfectly legitimate and the proper way to do it.
They know their business, know what they're best at and can probably add the content better than anyone. The SEO needs to be there to tell them how to structure the site, conduct the link campaigns, avoid penalties, etc.
It seems like a perfectly natural and very positive relationship to me, and something I've done in the past with great success.
I do agree that those terms are 2 of the hardest in the business, but with enough dedication, they can probably break the first 2 pages and do much better if they focus on specialized or regional terms.
I agree with randfish on the premise for most businesses, but a web hosting and design firm that wants to be aggressive in obtaining and maintaining high rankings would best be served in the long run with an in-house SEO. The very nature of this highly competitive business would almost demand it and it would be a great asset to their business profitability in general.
