I put a site live about a month ago, and have optimised it, and built a few link exchanges.
Its currently got PR0 as its a new site, but I wanted to know when I can expect Google to assign me a PR. Is it monthly, or fairly randomly done? How can I find out when it is going/when it has happened
Thanks

Most likely you already have a miniscule amount of PR now, however it will probably be 3-4 months before you see anything on the toolbar which is only updated about 4 times per year and the last update was just a few days ago. Make sure you get links from relevant websites pointing to you and be patient.
While there is only one sort of PR that Google uses in ranking many people think of PR as that funny green bar on the Google Toolbar.
The first kind of PR (true PR which is used when calculating rankings etc) used to be calculated only once a month, but IMO is more likely calculated on somthing like a weekly basis at this time, so you probably have some True PR now.
The Toolbar PR is only updated every three or four months and was updated just a couple of weeks ago so it will be some time (3 months or so) before you will see that little green bar start to move.

thanks
so does this mean I still have a chance of ranking well, even though no PR shows for me?
Your rankings will depend more on your page content and IBLs than your PageRank, so this is the time to work on that aspect of your site, which can rank even with the PR bar showing zero.

I bet that your site is going to rank first on the Yahoo search results...
I do not know which your site is, but lately the Slurp machine is taking the brand new sites faster than the Googleboot.
