I take it that this forum will not have avatars as it is not enabled?

I have one, I will find out the guidelines as to when avatars are turned on.
They might require a certain number of posts, etc.
Will let you know as soon as I know.

One nice feature of vBulletin 3.01 is that in your options you can choose to turn off the display of other people's avatars and signature files.

I think it would be good if they disabled avatars completely, they are annoying more times then not imho.

Avatars are not as annoying as the banners. I find the banners more distracting.

It would be nice to have avatars enabled. That really helps humanise the user experience.
Unless, of course, avatars are enabled and my profile settings are somehow wrong??

Avatars will NOT be enabled, so don't hold your breath:D
The are definitely distracting when trying to hold a professional conversation.
Yes, I agree it's sometimes nice to view a person's pic alongside their post, but the problem is that we can't control the quality of Avatar images - there's nothing to stop people from using cartoons or clip art or whatever other funky (or possibly offensive) thing they want. So it's just easier to not have them.

in case anyone else was wondering:
From the Sanscrit for the incarnation of Godhead, an avatar is the 'body' you 'wear' in a virtual community - an animated, articulated representation of a human which represents you, the user, in any virtual environment. Some of the more sophisticated chat rooms provide the facility to 'chat' over the 'net via the visual representation of interacting human forms.

Ah, so the issue is already decided? A shame, really.
