Hello!

First off, I am very new to SEO and I have been reading over this forum for about 2 weeks. I have probably learned everything I know about SEO from this site, and I thank you all for that. :)

Now, my question starts like this...I received the following "tips" in an email that was forwarded to me by my boss....

**4 easy ways to search engine optimize your Web
site**

1. Repeat keywords on your site as often as possible, and in multiple places, so search engine "spiders" can find them.

2. Stick to a few key words germane to your business
-- the more specific the better (e.g., "inflatable boats" vs. "boats").

3. On pay per click advertising, buy some misspelled words (e.g., "infatible"). It may not generate a lot of traffic, but the cost per click is low, so the ROI may be acceptable.

4. Avoid links to lengthy Web addresses. Pages with long and convoluted URLs are often generated by a database, and search engines typically do not index them.

Now, like I said I am very new to all of this. However, as I was reading it, a thought occured to me that this person has no idea what they are talking about. Isn't #1 considered "spamming?" Please let me know what you think! Thanks!!

>Isn't #1 considered "spamming?"

It depends on how and how many. In general theory, he's right (hence, pages without kw text have a hard time ranking).

You do want the keywords on the page. If it reads weird, then its too spammy. So don't overdue it.

example:

We sell big blue widgets in our big blue widgets category. If you like to buy big blue widgets from the best big blue widgets seller on the internet, visit our big blue widgets category, for more information on how to buy big blue widgets.

Maybe start with a set of core keywords, but add as time goes on.

don't focus on a set set of keyterms too much, just know what you are writing about and then write about and around it.
#1 rule: always make sense!
