View Full Version : Wordtracker databases
I am researching a keyword phrase in Wordtracker. If I use the Wordtracker database it returns zero searches for the phrase. If I use the Overure database (in Wordtracker) then I get the normal set of results back, i.e. KEI, Competing, Number. What should I read nto the fact that the normal Wordtracker database returns nothing, but the Overture returns results?

each database will have errors
Overtures #s will be boosted by click bots, rank checkers, and bid management type software
WordTrackers #s will have some errors due to sampling a small search pool (DogPile and WebCrawler I believe). these errors will be magnified as the search pool #s are multiplied out to account for larger engines and the whole search market.

Depending on your search terms, demographics could also be a big factor. I've seen searches that were very popular on Google, eg, that scarcely registered on Overture. I would expect Wordtracker to be even more demographically different from Google than Overture is.
I think the best you're going to get from these databases is relative numbers. In this regard, I'd definitely recommend that you look at the Google AdWords Keyword Tool as well. It doesn't give you numbers, but if you enter a general term, just as with Overture you'll get a list of "More Specific Keywords," and they appear to be in descending order of search frequency. It's probably the most granular of all the lists available.
