Hello,

I have a few websites... All of them are on the same server, same IP address, and are just different domains to the web. Since they are really all on the same server AND they are all related sites, would I get penalized by Google, Yahoo, etc if I linked back and forth between the sites? Or would it help my page ranking?

Thanks in advance!

You may find it difficult to build any significant insite PR by passing links from one site to the other... you may have been better off setting the whole thing up as subdomains.
However, I would not create links on every page to the other sites. Instead you may want to create a segue page for the other domains inside each site.
Every site should be developed with as many inbound links going not only to the homepage but to internal category pages... build the power from within.

I am just learning a bit about all of this....

Reciprocal linking might be the wrong term here. I guess I was interested mostly in linking from different websites (all my own) to each other. It would really become part of the content of each site, but 'feel' less cluttered. I believe this is what you mean by seque, but not sure.

I could still set everything up as subdomains... I have never tried that before, though. Since only 1 site of mine has been crawled before, I am not too worried about losing traffic yet.

Great advice, thanks!

I have the same question about multiple websites sharing the same IP address. It seems one of my domains is listed high in organic searches for google, while the other 3 have no pages listed in Google. However, they are listed in MSN, Yahoo, & AltaVista.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Is the content the same? Have the other sites just been recently created and the first has been arounf for over 8 months?

At first they were almost the same, the main thing that was changed was 'plumbers' to 'electricians' and other similar things. We have recently redone all of our pages to add unique content for each website.

I am wondering if this will help the pages for the domains that aren’t listed in google to become spidered and listed? Or should we look into getting the website onto a different IP server, or possibly a new domain + different server? Does google or any other search engines still penalize multiple websites on the same server IP?

Yes, some. My main question is should i quit my work on that domain, and start fresh with a new one? Or will Google reindex it when i create more backlinks and unique pages?

They will reindex... but it also could be in the sandbox... do a search here for the term and see if that is what may be happening.
