I am noticing additional backlinks as of yesterday. One site in particular picked up and additional 27 backlinks. Has anyone else seen this?
I know I am not seeing things.

I know that several high PR websites link to my site, but when I make a link:www.abc.com search at Google, I have nothing. My site has been live for a month now and the PR is still 0. Can someone give me an education?

The first lesson is patience. If you've got links they'll know about them and tally the Page Rank. But that has little to do with what you see on the toolbar or the timing, from your perspective. At some point down the line, when *visible* backlinks and PR are updated so that the toolbar displays it you'll see them; but meantime, watching for rankings is more important. What you see with the toolbar and checking backlinks don't necessarily correspond with what's being reflected internally.
A month is far too short, give it some more time.

Thanks Marcia for the education and encouragement. As search directory listing doesn't count much toward the PR, should I get listed as much as possible or just DMOZ, Yahoo, LookSmart and the like? When we talk about linking from those with a PR4 or better, are we referring to the website in general or the specific page that links to my page?

Hi laoloup!
PR is for a page not the web site as a whole. While developing backlinks, it's a good idea to not restrict yourself to just PR4+ pages. Think more in terms of relevant backlinks to your site. Backlinks do more than just add to your PR. They can drive highly targeted traffic and result in high conversion rates and RoI. You cannot control PR but you can do your best to raise your profitability.

Makes perfect sense, polarmate. So backlink is really a stone aiming at 2 birds, but primarily quality traffic!

Backlinks are also for the anchor text of links, which is a factor to consider for inbound links and internal site links as well.

I am not seeing any changes in backlinks.
I am getting mixed reports from people I am asking. Some people see it, some don't. Either way, nobody is reporting anything other than that -- not any PR changes in other words.
Since this does not seem to be an update in process, could it be something else? For instance, can it be a "loosening up" of what Google will now show when using the link: query?

I don't want to start any theories flying, but for the sites that are now showing backlinks turning up - are those older or newish sites?

In my particular case, one is two years old. And two were started in March ... more than 3 months ago though. These are the only 3 that I can see this phenomenon on right now. I have not seen it on several others that I have checked, all of those are older sites as well.
The last update seemed to show more backlinks than any other update. A lot of people reported this just about everywhere you went. I am just wondering if this has anything to do with it or if there is a connection.
