I need to add a UK section for one of my sites.
The content will totally different, with pages that appeal only to
UK users, but I want to keep my domain and not register a new one.
How can I make the uk.mydomain.com show on Google UK?

I don't believe you :)
But its real simple, .uk domain [.co.uk et al] or UK hosting [that Google knows is UK] is all you need. Me, I'd go for both but either will do as a start. It gets more complicated after that but you need to take at least one of those two steps first.

Last I checked, yes. Just make sure the host is a "known" UK host. I wouldn't recommend it but as a dip your toe in the water stratagy its a good start.

thanks again. Great advice
Will try that with a cheap host UK based and a few dummy pages. Worst case scenario I'll register .net uk version since the .com is taken.

It's not, *great advice* would be to not try that with a cheap host UK based and a few dummy pages, but that is another subject altogether.

Before signing up with any UK hosts, cheap or otherwise, make sure that the hosting actually IS in the UK. An awful lot of them use cheap hosting in the US.

They've usually got a page about their infrastructure, but I rang them up and asked them to confirm as well. A traceroute also helps. I did sign up with one company whose infrastructure page claimed the servers were in the UK. It was only after sign up that I found they were really in the US, so a traceroute is worth doing (as I found out).
