We currently have a a url (u2) redirecting to an historical domain (u2) which holds all our content....

The problem is, we only recently acquired (u2) which fits our marketing model better and should really be the home for our content....

What are the dangers in moving the content to (u2) and taking off the redirect on (u1).

Further, it appears we have a high ranking on (us) despite the fact that it is redirecting to (u1).

Would appreciate some focused advice on this.

that post confuses me. perhaps you can explain it a bit better, but here is my shot in the dark as far as the redirecting goes. you can 301 redirect anything to something else. any links pointing at page A which redirects to page B will also add to the link popularity of page B.

if page A has a bunch of links pointing to it and no longer redirects then you lose that link equity (at least as far as page B is concerned).
