It is interesting to see some really well designed & developed - complex - highly tech'ed - heavily SEO'ed Web sites - with the image of a free tracking icon staring at you from the bottom. :D

Do people really hate paying for them?

It's in their DNA. I know guys who make $100+/hr in seo but they'll spend 2 days of their time trying to find a free version of a $40 script.
