business.com just went from $99 to $149 to $199

On January 23, 2005 I submitted a site for $99 USD to Business.com. Thats quite a jump in a matter of a few weeks to $199 USD for a standard inclusion.

Good info, that's all nice to know about deep-links. Pretty savvy about the value of anchor text, there should be more SEOs running and promoting directories, IMHO. Some of those folks run more than one directory, too - and some are connected up with other folks among the group as well who also run directories.
So then even more can be found if you hunt around the sites and follow the trails a bit. Eventually some of them should do quite well with selling text link ads, once they get their PR picked up enough. I imagine that's a significant part of the business model in some cases, maybe even more so than fees for submitting. And isn't it nice to see the cooperation, how people are kind enough to help promote each other.
Some of them don't accept affiliate sites, and that would be another thing that should be more clearly stated there, for the benefit of the affiliate marketing crowd.

* there should be more SEOs running and promoting directories*
Couldn't agree, in fact, seeing the bags they've made of them so far, SEOs should be kept well away from directories....

Maybe a couple have exceptional earnings, but for many directories, I should think there are cheaper and easier ways to make profit. :)

There is a demand for the categorisation and listing of websites in timely fashion. The new crop of directories do just that.
Plenty of space in the mix for *fresh and updated* directories, portals and verticals.

I started off reading your post with the thought of ... Huh? The more I read, it sunk in. Great post! I "love" the sarcasm. :D

It doesn't help, as I still reject several a day. They seem to think money buys inclusion, after having it nearly spelled out to them before filling in information or finding a checkout, they just submit anyway.
Affiliate sites used to be something you could include, but with the obese amount of the crap nowadays, and the "make a million dollars for no work each day" sites promoting them, it just isn't worth it anymore IMO. Listing the main site, no problem, bugger the rest though.

She caught me too early in the AM, and I hadn't previously associated M with the S word :-(
That's my excuse anyway....

What amazes me about this is that it is okay to pay for a directory listing so long as the directory has some cred.... but if you buy links from other places you get jetisionned from Google when caught!!!

Maybe a couple have exceptional earnings, but for many directories, I should think there are cheaper and easier ways to make profit. That's understood Brian, but for some people running directories serves as a vehicle for promoting sites to sell PR and text links from. So that's where the profit incentive would lie in those cases, not from the income from the directories themselves. This could easily be illustrated beyond a shadow of a doubt by posting some Yahoo searches - which I won't do, for obvious reasons. ;)
I am not so sure that Bluefind is still a viable place to list your site, I see it with a PR0, only 182 pages listed in a Google site: search with most of those 182 being links only, not indexed pages.

Yes, but with that attitude, you've lost the online battle already. All your thinking about is Google, Google, Google! Have Yahoo, MSN, Ask, Teoma, etc etc etc dropped the site? I think not, thus it still holds a value to be listed there. It's that type of thinking so many whinge when Google changes algo... oh no, all my traffic has stopped because all I did was target Google!
Yes and so long as Google gives me 78% of my traffic even though I rank better at other search engines, I will continue to pay more attention to Google than to other engines. YMMV.

I'm closing this thread. Bob obviously maintains a list of deep link directories, which you can find at this site. I see no reason to keep updating things in this thread.
