Hi all,

If I check what sites link to me using link:domainname it shows zero.

link:www.domainname only shows 1 site linking to me.

I know for a fact that there are around 250 external site links to me in Google, I can see this by typing the domain name without www. or the .co.uk

Why is this? I assume that Google therefore isnt rating all these backlinks??

Thanks

Okay you are a little vague on this.
Are you merely typing your domainname into the browser? If so then you get a list of sites/pages that have you mentioned without necessarily having a link. Also if you drop the www and the .co.uk then you are back to finding at best anchor text... but in reality just mentions of you site.

Apologies for the vagueness, heres the actual results:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?as_lq=deftcreative.co.uk&btnG=Search

http://www.google.co.uk/search?as_lq=www.deftcreative.co.uk&btnG=Search

and then finally, the "real" list of sites that should show as linking to me:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=deftcreative&btnG=Search&meta=

Any opinions much appreciated

Google's LINK: command does not show all of your backlinks.
If you want a better idea of the number of your backlinks try

Try a linkdomain:www.domain.dom search over at Yahoo.

You may not see the 250 you are expecting but it is more accurate than Google's link: search

The real list is as I said pages that have you domain name mentioned... it is not as a link even though you are trying that it is for every mention of your site and all possible combinations...

Plus we know google only refers a few... the emthod does not give you all the links and in your case all your links are below where Google generally includes it in a list.

Google shows 142 references to your URL:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22%2Bwww.deftcreative.co.uk%22

These are all in the Google index. Their significance will vary according to whatever Google does with its data.

Looking at your home page, it appears that your most important keywords are "deft creative". Your site ranks second for that phrase:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=deft+creative

Good job!
