View Full Version : Padded Room topics
Hello all,
I've received some comments form other forum members who are annoyed by a non-search topic post I made in this area. Would folks prefer that even here in the Padded Room we stay on the search topic? Or do you want a room where we can talk about anything and everything? Tell me what you think!

actually, I never intended the Padded Room to be only for search/Internet related topics that didn't fit anywhere else, though that is certainly a good use for it as well, and I'd be fine with seeing that continue.
I always envisioned the Padded Room for off the wall stuff and general chat, like "FOO" at WMW, "The Pub" at HR, "Members Lounge" at SEF - where anything goes.

Strange things go on in padded rooms, why should we be any different? :)

Hm. I don't see what the problem is; why shouldn't you/we be able to chitchat about other topics in this particular forum?

I have a more fundamental question. :)
Are the walls of this room padded because:
1. We don't want people outside to be disturbed by the racket, or
2. We don't want people to hurt themselves as they bang their heads or other parts of their anatomy against the walls.
I really would like to know the official position on this question.
bwelford,
That would be "C", All of the Above! :D
I only came for "the padded room"
:(

The Padded Room should be a place where you can talk about anything whether it be search engines, reality shows, rants, tell jokes, make fun of things, whatever.
If the "forum members" who complained don't necessarily like it, then they should avoid this room because this is where all the off topic and sometimes crazy stuff should go on. Just my opinion on the matter.

I still think we've got to be very careful to avoid upsetting folk's sensibilities. Perhaps each thread in this Forum should have its own Padded Room score. Incredibly serious threads could have a PR of say 8 to 10. Incredibly silly or crazy threads could have a PR of say 0 or 1. People can then dip into threads knowing exactly how much relevance they are likely to find there. :)

Barry, I sometimes can't tell when you're joking, or if you are.
As to relevance, I'll paraphrase an old song:
"Trying to make it relevant - compared to what?"

Hi Diane.
Re whether I'm joking, sometimes I'm not sure either. :)
um, guys... you're chitchatting. Idly.

My apologies. I will endeavor to chitchat agitatedly. :-)

The subtitle of the forum says it's OK to yell as loud as we want here - presumably why the walls are padded. And here is a perfect example - NFFC right here

>>>Everytime I see it used in relation to search it makes me scream [out loud].<<<
Now see how appropriate?
