MSN searchers will start to see the first changes and updates to the MSN search engine sometime next month and will experience an MSN powered search later this year, according to comments made by Bill Gates in a media briefing in Sydney, Australia this week.

Gates also says that the quality of results will be changing in July. Hmmmmm.

Thanks Jen at Search Engine Guide (http://www.searchengineguide.com).

Buy a gas mask, parachute some anti-radiation pills, etc... :D

Seriously, just let MSNBot find you and wait. If it is any good, Moderators of SEW should get an extra boost in their rankings.

BTW, has anyone seen MSNBot in their logs?

Yep, that is all we can do is wait. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully they will provide relevant results and be a player against Google and Yahoo. Hey, maybe the good ol'd days when there was more than one search engine are coming back!

Little bugger has been all over my sites like a starving dog on a porkchop! BTW, their bot supports a crawl delay command in the robots.txt file which allows you to specify how many seconds the bot should wait before retrieving another page.

Here's the syntax for 10 seconds:

User-Agent: msnbot
Crawl-Delay: 10

Although this command is currently not documented, there is some useful information on the bot here (http://search.msn.com/webmasters/default.aspx).

One thing, that little MS powered bot doesn't flinch at session IDs, I wonder how they'll handle redundancy. Should be interesting.

Yes but it was not where I expected. It showed up in WebTrends browsers, not the spiders.

I find the rate of visiting of the MSNbot is comparable to the rate of visits by the Googlebot family of robots.

In the last 30 days I've logged 1,363 visits from MSNBot, 300 over the 4th of July weekend alone. As the majority of our content is dynamic I'm curious if this little bot is just tenacious or if they've cracked the dynamic indexing nut? Any thoughts? Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

In june 72,975 hits from the bot.
So far this month 4,177.

I'm deeply unimpressed with the search engine, but that's probably because my site isn't beeing rated very highly.
