I don't know about you guys, but I really miss the old WPN. Now it's almost 80% about blogs and 20% search. Yah, we all love blogs and it is a hot topic going around, but lMHO search used to make WPN a very good daily read when it was all fresh stuff.

Every now and then I read a good article on WPN, but I have to say, 90% of it is crap. Stuff that is old news or articles from people who just don't know what they are talking about, or worse, articles that are nothing more than useless info to disguise a blatant advertisiement.
sigh.

Garrett French is no longer with them. . . .We miss his style, I think.
True, but there are other great journalists over at iEntry like Chris Richardson and then we see the occasional drive-by articles from Andy Beal and others that make it worth comming back.
Honestly, I wish they had a feed for just the Search Insider section so I can filter out so much of the blog stuff. Hey, but that's just me. Call me crazy if you wish. :p

I removed WPN a few months ago from my reader for this exact reason. I was sick of sifting through the crap to find one or two good stories a week. Yuk...

I know many people, that are not as intimately involved with this community, that consider WPN the authority on this topic (outside of SEW).

I've been monitoring WPN for a while, especially after they entered Google News syndication.
Garrett French's work with them and Brittany's reporting and moderating were quite top notch. Almost too good.
After they both disapeared from WPN, the site slowly changed into an article reprinting zone for people who wanted to get listed on Google News and other syndicated channels where WPN gets terrific play.
More recently, it seems that WPN has joined the ranks of EarthTimes.org, the China Daily, and many Indian News sites as Google News Skimmers, monitoring the most popular stories on Google News and posting rewrites with their own WPN tone. However, it seems that in the past month, WPN has gotten away from being "news for web professionals" and has transformed into "news printed on the web by pros" - writing stories on news topics completely unrelated to web marketing or web site management.
They've made some great deals to reprint blogs of Steve Rubel, Andy Beal, and others, but I really feel they have lost their direction and are upping their circulation numbers for advertising's sake, and not attracting the interested and targeted readers that they may have been before.
We all know that Garrett went over to Andy's KeywordRanking, but whatever happened to Brittany?

I mod the affiliate forum over there and yes Brittany went back to school.
I really miss her and Garrett's influence in the forums.

I was reading some articles there earlier, and all the so-called "articles" were was quotes from other people gleaned from other places. There was nothing in the articles that could be called real content contributed by the author, beyond a sentence or two introducing the quotes - from other people. Not one speck of original thought or contribution by the so-called "author."
or worse, articles that are nothing more than useless info to disguise a blatant advertisiement.Exactly.

Well, you know what they say, if you're not part of the solution you're part of the proble. I got a couple of my own articles published on WPN a few weeks ago. Real articles, mind you. Real content and the like.

I know we all miss Garret and Brittany, but I believe Chris Richardson is doing a very good job. Coverages like this one (http://www.webpronews.com/insiderreports/searchinsider/wpn-49-20050322HowWillIACPurchaseChangeAsk.html) is what makes WPN good.

Ah, WPN and Garrett French.
Some writers seem dedicated. In my view others have no clue what they talk about. Some of them simply repack comments of others and even few of them have written irrisory and misleading pieces about
c-indices (Garret French)
use of tables
keywords density
etc...

Mayor improvements on the site, better organization of articles spread around all categories, more contribiting writers that know their subjects and fresh up to date information has made me start going back to read WPN on a daily basis. I like what I see now.

By the way, rumor has it that Andy Beal has Garrett locked in a basement somewhere in the Carolinas, forcing him to blog constantly on MarketerToday http://www.marketertoday.com , a new WebSourced/Beal/French project.

Is that why they stopped publishing my articles? ;)
