View Full Version : Urchin vs. Hitbox

For the past couple of years, I've used Hitbox (javascript) for my site analytics. I recently changed servers and got Urchin with the deal. Urchin is reporting about 40% more visitors than Hitbox.

1. Can this be right?

I sell ads on my site. Hitbox has an "Exit Links" (in addition to "Exit Pages") feature that reports on where visitors went when they left your site. So, I know how many clickthroughs each advertiser got.

2. Is there another off-the shelf way to obtain this info?

Thanks. Jim

JBL,

I think the answer maybe the "Javascript" based reporting that you used before with Hitbox. Not everyone has javascript enabled. I wouldn't think it's as high as 40%, but who knows.

JBL, is urchin's UTM code enabled?

I've used both and I'm also using both versions of Urchin (logfiles on 5.7 and javascript with On Demand 6.0)

First comment, I trust Urchins number way more from experience. Second, I've learned the hard way going through just about every one of all website analytics softwares that Urchin is probably the best. All in my opinion, of course.

Rustybrick,

I just have the out-of-the box version that comes with the server. Do you recommend it?

I am not sure what you mean by "out of the box", you can configure it anyway. Make sure the UTM option is on and UTM javascript code is on your pages.
