I've just been to the IAB (http://www.iab.net/)(Interactive Advertising Bureau for the uninitiated) website.

1. The site has no custom 404 pages, just the basic IIS error page.

2. The internal search doesn't work -

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'URLEncode'

/search/index.asp, line 268

3. The HTML has no DOC type#

I could find more faults, but my rant is, what the hell are they doing, representing the "interactive advertising" industry - and they talk about search as well as banners etc - and doing such a bad job of the basic thins on their own site?

I guess that's what happens when traditional marketing and advertising switch to the Web and "represent" online marketing.

Or should that be "hold back"?

More power to SMA, if they get it right.

I know what you mean.

First, I love UNIX/Linux.

Secondly, the same thing happens when print media comes to the Web. Both Web and print media have their own technological constraints (page download time, varying monitor sizes, etc. versus mind-bending ink and paper issues).

Lesson to be learned: just because it is visual does not mean the constraints are the same.

Interestingly, IAB UK (http://www.iabuk.net/) seem to have a better site than IAB US (PHP, too) with clear introductions to the industry, audience info, case studies, news etc.
