View Full Version : Duplicate content filter/ban?

Hi
I have recently launched 6 very similar sites, not for SPAM purposes:
www.adventurejobs4u.co.uk
www.backpackerjobs4u.co.uk
also ski, student, summer and watersports.

GG rankings for all sites except adventurejobs4u disappeared yesterday. Searching for the URL just returns the title with no cache or description.

If I change the sites to give them all unique content will this filter/ban be removed? How long will this take?

Also, a completely different site (magnoliaproperties.co.uk) on the same server also completely dissapeared at the same time? Could my IP address have a black mark against it?

Any ideas on what I should do to remedy this?

Many thanks.

Hello magnolia.

Were they crosslinked?

Hi
Thanks for replying. Origionally the 6 jobs websites were crossed linked, but I was advised to stop doing that so I did. There are no links at all between the jobs websites and magnoliaproperties.co.uk?
Thanks

I find it hard to believe that your job sites were ever ranking well unless it was based on anchor text links from other sites since your site navigation is by form and thus the spiders can only see your home page and the sample search at the bottom of the page.

So if you removed the links from other sites and the rankings dropped it may be because that was the only thing your sites were ranking on.

As far as Magnoliaproperties.co.uk goes that URL does not see to resolve for me, IF the URL is correct then look at your DNS setup.

I would suggest changing the layout. Get rid of the drop down menu and create categories then use them as anchor text to the internal pages inside.
Create a sitemap link on the bottom of each site that lists all by region and category.
It shows an abundance of content and have the pages updated regularly and the spiders will eat it up.
Try not to link from one to the other sites too much but it could be done once a category so long as the categories are not exactly the same and the pages are not the same.
You may have a job ahead of you rewriting six versions of copy for shared individual ppages but it will be worthwhile in the long run... get a solid base up and as you add newly written pages it will be adding updated info to each site which the spiders will like.

Mel: Thank you for your comments. The sites never were ranking well, but if you typed in unique obscure text from the home page, Google used to display the page. Now it doesn't. The only way I can get Google to return a page is if I type in the url, but then it displays it without a cache or descripton.
I hope you are right in what you say about it being because of the links being taken away. I have also just discovered that another site that was linking to my sites has stopped. I'll get a few more back links and see if things improve.

Aussie: Thanks for your advise, I'll work on it.

Cheers guys.

you will have to e-mail Google, explain and ask nicely to re-include you. I hear people saying that they got in the next update, others are still waiting years later. The text is very, very similar and coupled with the fact that they were cross-linked and on the same server....
