When you use a host provided tracking service like webalizer, does it create a link from your page to the service? If it doesn't - is using host provided tracking better than using an external tracking service like the extreme counter (in terms of sending away pr)?

Most of the hosting service provided tracking tools (like webalizer) use web server logs to generate the reports you see. There are no links on your page to the service for these tools to work. However, you might have links if you go with one of the ad-based, "free" hosting services.

If you have to insert code into your pages such as a JavaScript code or something like that, then there may be some kind of link, whether visible or hidden back to original site. Other than that, a program like Webalizer generates reports from your log file data.
