"top EIGHT IYP's?"

My dad got this email earlier today:

"To all XXXXXX & XXXXXX customers: Over the last several months, I am sure you have been inundated with information about the top EIGHT IYPs. They are becoming more and more influential to where you are found on the search engines. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are all using the top EIGHT IYPs to authenticate and verify your website every month. I would strongly encourage that you sign up for all of them, either by doing it yourself, or having me do it for you. I hope you and your family have a happy holiday season. Best wishes, XXXX XXXXXX/800 XXX XXXX"

With a little effort, I believe that IYP stands for internet yellow pages. I'm not sure what the "top eight" are, nor am I certain if what this guy says is true. Any thoughts/ comments/ info?

Interestingly they do give good advice about getting into the IYPs (lol).. they are being used for local searches by some engines.... whether you want someone else do it I don't know... and would be interested in knowing the 8... I know of 3 bigs

I just came across this set of stats that I used in my book to describe the opportunity with IYP listings. This is from comScore for Q3 2004. According to the report this his how the share of IYP searches break out.

Yahoo! YP 34%
SuperPages 19%
Smartpages 13%
Switchboard 9%
Infospace 7%
All others 18%

I really started looking at this after doing a search for hartford +tires and the top 10 listings in Google were all for these various Yellow page sites.
