Welcome to the beta test of Search Engine Watch's new forums area! The forum's public launch is planned for June 7 -- but you are welcomed and encouraged to begin participating now.
Participating in the boards is easy. Register for free, and you can add you comments to the discussions. Registration requires only 2 things:
* Select a user name for yourself
* Provide your email address.
Your email address is used to confirm your identity. You will not be added to any marketing lists.
Your account comes with options for many settings, but here are a few that most people pay attention to...
* Time zone; the default is Greenwich Meantime. You need to change it to your time zone, otherwise all message times will be displayed as if you were in London.
* Instant email notification: You may want this on. When enabled, you will get an email if you have started a thread and someone replied. If the amount of email you get is ever a problem, simply come back and go to your User Control Panel, and change it.
* Display your email address: By default, no one can see your email address. If you want others to see it, so they can reach you, change this option.
* Your profile. This is how others will learn about you. Add information now, or come back later. Change it as often as you like.
The software has many other features that you can explore, such as the ability to rate threads, private messaging, signatures, searching and more. As the forum develops, we'll run special discussions in the future explaining these in more depth, to encourage greater use.
If you encounter any problems or bugs, please let me know!

I wish there where 8 days in a week to follow all these forums. Between running my own, moderating a partners, hanging at at High Rankings and then continueing to Orkut communities, its all just getting a bit much.
Excellent forum guys and I must say, about time. This one will blow the industry away. I really look forward to learning even more here. I love this industry.

Whoo hoo! Another forum! Elisabeth, above all, have fun with it and make sure that no one posts any "vulgar, hateful, offensive" or any other nasty material as outlined in the extensive TOS. And please no anonymous Google employees with cute nicknames!
I had a forum once. How naive I was.
I censored a search "enthusiast" (we'll call him Scary) for calling me a nasty name (something ending in "wonder"), which was in response to censoring him for calling other people extremely nasty names, repeatedly. Luckily for the pursuit of truth, he reproduced the insult on his own site, as well as a catalog of insults for every search-related message board on the Internet.
If SEW Forums is up to snuff, it should be on the list within a few days!

SEW has no intention of taking away market share from WMW. Danny S. and Brett T. are friends and I am sure they are discussing the benefits of some sort of comparative advantage strategy.

Hi,
First off, these Forums are great. Knowing the reputation of SE Watch I'm sure it will grow quickly. I love the topic groups.
When I'm on the http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/forum/index.php? page I did notice that the 'News from Search Engine Watch' links don't work.

Friends! I think that is great. Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition. Actually, it makes perfect sense, if Brett can get into the conference business, then it is reasonable that Danny (and Internet.com) cross into the forum business.

I have a question. There doesn't seem to be any kind of a discernible pattern; how come some folks have green balls next to their names while others have blue balls?
Elisabeth
06-03-2004, 05:15 PM
green balls = online browsing the forum
blue balls = offline.

Well over 100 currently logged in members can't be bad for a forum that's not even officially launched yet! ;) I think that's maybe an error based on the destination of the left-hand navbar links to the SEW forum (http://www.internet.com/_mocks/clickznetwork/searchenginewatch/searchforums.html) which doesn't seem quite right yet.
This forum is bound to be a great success, but I'll still wish all involved tremendous luck (which they won't need, I'm sure).

Yoo hoo all - Just popping by to wish the forums here well.
I haven't had a good look as yet, so not sure if this is where I make complaints & point out problems
On my laptop using IE 5 (ok ok.. don't ask why!) and I have some trouble staring at a blank content area.. took me a while to figure that I had to scroll way on down past the left nav.. to find the forum posts .... I would go upgrade but I figure.
Just mentioning it in case anyone wants to cater for the dinasours that lurk around places like this.

1024 here.. little bit of cross browser compatility testing should fix it.
Looks good apart from that (so far).. nice colours & getting used to the nav etc..
Adding: I don't have a two inch gap.. for me, it goes left nav & blank and then the actual forums spread in the lower section under it.

get wireless! At least this way you can sit outside, with a cold drink and do you work. It's not as relaxing as a day at the beach but it's better than a dark indoor office :)

And now that Apple came out with Airport Express with AirTunes (http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/) you can go wireless any where. I am not an Apple employee. :)
