It is a daunting task to have to forge strategic alliances, particularly when post election stress disorder rears it's ugly head and obfuscates the post traumatic stress disorder that we suffer when we spam and fear a manual review that could result in a penalty, or fear that we may have tripped a filter after an algorithm update, having compromised our ethics and not gone strictly by the guidelines set out in the Google Books.

"you know" when frequently included in what a person says. Once I hear that a couple of times, I can't hear anything else from the person.

solution

We've actually had people call to say that they need a solution; makes me wonder (and have to ask): a solution for what?

I'm with Marcia re the use of "girls" when referring to grown women; or maybe it's just one of those things that only one of the girls can say. :)

Anything similar to the above make me want to scream, then hunt down the people responsible...

"Information Superhighway" along with stupid "roadkill" jokes related to it.....

IanI haven't heard "information superhighway" used for many many years, but it used to annoy me when the internet was refered to as the information superhighway, because they were entirely different things - the former being a concept that was never put into practise, although the internet had probably largely developed into it by now.

I hate it when "google" is used as a verb - "I googled it" etc. I *really* hate that a lot.

Hehe Marcia, I love using 'the long tail'. It's a great way to explain the ability of the internet to target niches and very qualified consumers.

Back on-topic, "Keyword Density". Oh man. when the developers ask me if we need to increase or decrease keyword density I demand to know which websites they've been reading :)

Hehe Marcia, I love using 'the long tail'. It's a great way to explain the ability of the internet to target niches and very qualified consumers. We know that shor, but the crux of the matter is that the "thing" existed long before the phrase was coined.

That's also been the raison d'etre for the survival of the content crowd, many of whom couldn't get a listing for certain keywords other than putting it up on their refrigerator with a magnet. Being able to do it (or not) and whether or not considering it even worth bothering about are two different matters.

Actually, I like the "long tail", because it's concise, and it avoids using long sentences to explain what you mean.

Actually, I like the "long tail", because it's concise, and it avoids using long sentences to explain what you mean. So Phil, does that mean that if you're pursuing keywords in just a small portion of a niche, you're going after a "piece of tail?"

"I fixed my metatags"
"Alt tag" (It's an alt attribute, dammit!)
"Pagerank"
"Alexa rank"
"mesothelioma"
"404 Not Found"

And my 2 favorites:

"SEO Guru" - I don't know who these people are, but they sure seem to give a lot of bad, outdated and simplistic advice. "I've been reading a lot and all the SEO gurus say that to get rankings you need to fix your metatags and get lots of links - do you know any FFA sites I can join?"

"My Friend the Lawyer" - this is usually a fictitious person invented to add credence to some of the worst legal advice ever. "Well, my lawyer friend said that if you ask a cop if he's a cop and he says no, then he can't arrest you" and other such stupid statements, apparently gleaned from B-Movies and cartoons. My favorite part is when they try to tell me something crazy, then when I tell them it's wrong, they bring out the "lawyer friend".

I usually ask for the lawyers names, since anyone saying those types of things should be brought to the attention of the local Bar Association ASAP. Oddly, not one of the people whose good friends were lawyers giving them free legal advice has yet been able to remember their expert, helpful good friend's name. Weird, huh?

Burglarized!

This one makes me want to stake the speaker/writer through the heart, then wipe out the rest of the family in case the gene might spread.

To Burgle is the act of a burglar, who commits burglary, with the property having then been burgled. Anyone using the redundant, ugly, nonsense 'word' burglarized needs to be vocabularized perhaps? (They've likely already been lobotomized).

That's because I tore a pile of them up a few days ago. They were replacements for another pile that I hadn't put into the bank in time. I decided to destroy the old ones, but I picked up the wrong pile and tore them into pieces
