Hi.
I just wondered what the minimum number of external links are for Google to list my site.
I'm on about 15 of the other search engines, in some places I get top ranking, other places in the first three, before setting up external links to my main site.
In the past few days, I have set up 10 other external sites to link to my site - is this enough to keep Google happy, and list my site, or do I need any more?
Thankyou -

You only need one good link to be indexed by Google. For ranking the number of links depends on the competition and also the quality of those links.
Keyword rich link text is also very important for ranking on Google.

building a linking campaign is something that is never done in my opinion. you have to keep working at it.
the web will continue to grow with or without you. if you dont get links eventually your competitors will likely bypass you

As long as you have a single link to your site from a page that Google regurlarly indexes, Google will be able to index your page and should also index other pages on your site that can be found via links from your target page.
As to how many links are necessary, this varies based on what your competition is doing, so review the pages (and the pages of their inbound linking partners) that you are competing with - this will give you an idea of what is needed in a particular category.
The number of links is not as important as the quality of links. You should be looking for links that come from important pages within your community, i.e. pages that have keywords/content that is similar or related to your content and that have also have decent pagerank. With that said, you will get better results with links from pages that do not have TOO many outbound kinks.

Hi,
I just had a new site indexed on Google, with a PR2. It is linked from only one other site (multiple image links), with a PR3.

As stated, one will do the job. As SEOBook stated, the job is never finished. If you want to rank highly in Google, then you want to continue your link building. The difference with link building is quality vs. quantity?
You sound like your a little unsure about the matter, so here goes.
You can get one link that makes more difference compared to 1000 links in Google. Google demands quality when it comes to links.
A good example of finding quality sites that will have more impact than quantitiy is this:
You sell golf shoes in New York! Do a search for golf shoes and start at the top and try and establish links with other sites who sell golf shoes. You sell in New York for example, they may sell in Las Vegas. Same content, different audiences via location. Those type links will do best for you as a starter. Scratch each others backs through your websites. Then you can start on golf clubs, golf courses, golf shops, golf clothing and so forth. A couple of good links like that and you will soon be dominating your niche.
