Look at the cache and at the bold words in the titles and snippets.
I searched and found these results where they separate to from reno but if I search with other names there is no separation.

And it doesn't have anything to do with there not being direct matches.

I think what you have found are instances where the combinations of the letters throw up different answers... in the case where it says no listings there are too many possibilities... the vegas has enough exact typos to set it as a keyword field and the reno is shorted and gets separated...
The best person to input on this would be orion.

huntsville is a place, tohuntsville isn't and possibly they found no matches with the phrase run-on. But they did recognize huntsville as a place and suggested the proper search for to huntsville. It may have something to do with that, or with identifying a stop word included in what to them is an otherwise known or unknown quantity. They recognize huntsville as a legit search term so can parse to out of it to identify a real word.
Map to Huntsville in quotes is cool altogether, it's clear enough and brings back the goods.
toreno is a place, as is reno - or could conceivably be a place. They're pulling up tovegas only when the words are run-on in usage, it could just be a word they haven't identified as being one - as long as they find matches, regardless of the inclusion of a stop word.
I'm not 100% clear, I think we need a little more on what you're seeing on this, msgraph.
And what I'd be interested in looking into further is the possibility of them using a pre-set taxonomy in some way to identify searches for words known to them, and whether words outside their knowledge would be handled differently from those that are.
